Timothy Northcut

Professor Tuba and /Euphonium University of Cincinnati Concervatory of Music

Timothy J. Northcut is presently Professor of Music, Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in Cincinnati, Ohio. In addition, he serves as Music Director of the CCM Brass Choir and coordinator of the brass chamber music program. Under his leadership, the Brass Choir has performed at the 1995 International Brassfest (Bloomington, Indiana), the 53rd Annual MidWest Clinic (Chicago, Illinois) and the 2002, 2005 and 2010 Ohio Music Education Association Conferences (Cincinnati, Ohio). In 2003, the Brass Choir performed and recorded with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra for the Telarc Label. In 1997, 2003 and 2010, Tim was awarded CCM’s Ernest N. Glover Outstanding Teacher Award. Also in 2003, he was awarded the University of Cincinnati Mrs. A. B. (Dolly) Cohen Award for Excellence in University Teaching and was recognized as one of Ohio’s Top 100 Educators in Ohio Magazine’s Excellence in Education Awards. From 1998-2001, he served as the Executive Director of the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute, an international performance and career development seminar for brass musicians in conjunction with Summit Brass, America’s premiere large brass ensemble. In 2008, Tim served as artistic director and host of the 2008 International Tuba Euphonium Conference. Tim currently performs as Principal Tuba with the Dayton (Ohio) Philharmonic Orchestra and the Carillon Brass Quintet. He is a member of Summit Brass, Canterbury Brass, Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and Symphonia, America’s large professional tuba-euphonium ensemble. His past experience includes serving as a member of the military’s premiere touring band—The United States Army Field Band (Washington, DC)—and numerous other solo and chamber music appearances. Tim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Tennessee Technological University, a Masters of Music degree in Performance from The Catholic University of America, and has completed course work towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University.
