International competition for brasswind ensembles
12.11.2010
As the famous and much sought-after ensemble competition for brass instruments was finished last weekend, many musicians from all over the world used the opportunity to make a stop on their way at the B & S / MELTON Showrooms of the House of Music of Wenzel Meinl.
The French quartet AH!LESGROS with trombones and tuba came to Upper Bavaria already quite some time before the competition. Of course, for two days they inspected the B & S "Meistersinger" trombones, which on the one hand are typically German but with an international orientation – something completely new to French (photo 1).
One day after the award ceremony the winning quartet IN MEDIA BRASS with Jóco Bazsinka, whose father Prof. Jószef Baszinka of the Budapest Festival Orchestra for more than 25 years is friend of Gerhard A. Meinl, the General manager of the Wenzel Meinl GmbH. The musicians of this quartet are all students and graduates of the Franz-Liszt-Musical Academy at Budapest. This academy is one of the high-level conservatories of the world. But they had to share their 1st prize – again with a Hungarian quartet, namely the Hungarian Corpus Quartet. Therefore there was no second place but only a third one, which was given to the American Axiom Brass quintet.
Gerhard A. Meinl clinked glasses with the musicians with a champagne which was a special filling on the this year's occasion of 200 years Wenzel Meinl. (photo 2)
